Wasat’s Stewardship & Sustainability programs provide theoretical and practical experiences for those who are seeking to make a difference in their multi-cultural community and on the ground as stewards of the earth within the Worldview of Islam. Our programs include:

1) General programs for the community in order to raise literacy and awareness on key issues related to stewardship and sustainability.
2) Trainings and courses with a more intensive and in depth presentation in order to train and deeply educate a smaller cohort of people who will be able to implement, serve, and assist the vision in our city and beyond.

As part of our new Stewardship and Sustainability branch, Director Rhamis Kent will be teaching regular classes, trainings, and practicums in permaculture design, Islamic ethics, and environmentalism within an Islamic cosmology and epistemology. Rhamis is a world renowned specialist in permaculture, environmentalism, and applied Islamic ethics. He is heading up our Neighborly Needs program, working with local organizations, farmers and caterers to prevent food waste and serve meals made of surplus produce to those in need in our city.

Wasat also partners with Tilth Alliance to invite community to participate as a soil and water stewardship group. Participants support with monthly hands-on projects implementing aspects of what’s being covered in the Stewardship and Sustainability course currently underway.
