Wasat is pleased to announce a new, upcoming course with Rhamis Kent and Dr Adi Setia. This is an introductory, yet comprehensive version of The Popular IGE PEARL (www.igepearl.org) course, delivered in 10 x 2 hour sessions.
This course is for conscientious, thinking people who are interested in understanding the ethics and rules around mua’malah or ‘The socio-economic domain of life’
This unique course introduces little understood fundamentals of manners and rules surrounding social and commercial transactions. Although this is taught from an Islamic perspective, it is relevant to all thinking people who are interested in exploring authentic and viable alternatives to the current neoliberal and financial, capitalist system.
We will discuss the Islamic Law of Transactions and the Science of Stewardship of the Household, within the framework of the Golden Rule and the Golden Mean.
We will explore how these precepts apply to daily life in multicultural communities and societies around the world. This course is for anyone interested in the effort to Take Back The Economy.
We will focus on:
-The Ethics and Morals of Making a Living
-Buying and Selling and Business Partnerships and Contracts
-The Islamic concept of the role of money in society
When: This class will gather Thursday evenings from 7-9pm. There will also be opportunities for practical application of the course material for those in Seattle through hands-on service and stewardship activities, to be announced later.
