We will be discussing the course, entitled The Deep Sunnah: 40 Hadith On Spirituality, Healing And Community will be a commentary on 40 hadith that were compiled by one of the greatest scholars and spiritual teachers Shaykh Salih al-Ja’fari, who taught and served as the Imam of the renowned Al-Azhar Mosque and University.
Imam Adeyinka (pronounced ah-deh-yeen-ka) Mendes is the Founding Director of the Nibras Institute as well as the Bilal Spiritual Center for Peace and the Arts, and co-founder of the African-American Healing, Ancestry, and Development (AHAD) Collective, all founded for establishing a holistic, spiritual, peaceful, joyous, and indigenous practice of Islam dedicated to sacred service and justice for all. He also works as a rites of passage consultant, poet, interpreter of sacred texts, meditation guide, social good leadership trainer, and teacher of Arabic and Islamic Sciences. He was blessed to study with scholars in the United States, Syria, Mauritania, Nigeria, and The Gambia and continues to read with scholars and students. Imam Mendes is a recipient of the Center for Global Muslim Life "2020 Spiritual Impact Award" and his latest work, "The Spirits of Black Folk: Sages Through the Ages", a translation of Imam as-Suyuti's renowned text, "The Excellence of Black People" (Raf'u Sha'ni'l-Hubshan), about the history of Black people in early Islam and related topics, was published by CelebrateMercy in 2021. Imam Mendes is the proud husband of Rukayat Yakub, an award-winning children's author and Montessori educator, and father of seven lovely children.
